Maruti Suzuki India reported a slight decrease in its total production in September, with a 1% drop to 174,978 units compared to the 177,468 units produced in the same month the previous year. The production of entry-level cars, including the Alto and S-Presso, saw a significant reduction of 70%, falling to 10,705 units from 35,887 units in September 2022.
The company also noted a decline in the production of several models such as the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR. These models saw a combined production of 90,849 units in September, down from 92,717 units in the same month last year. The mid-sized sedan Ciaz also saw a decrease in production to 2,304 units from 2,654 units in September 2022.
Passenger car production experienced a more substantial decrease of 21%, with production numbers falling to 103,858 units from 131,258 units in September 2022. There was an increase in the production of utility vehicles such as the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga and Jimny which rose to 56,579 units compared to 29,811 units in September 2022.
The total production of passenger vehicles saw a marginal decrease to 173,451 units from 173,929 units in September 2022. The light commercial vehicle Super Carry also experienced a drop in production to 1,527 units compared to the 3,539 units produced in September 2022.
